I found this title on an online list of best lesbian erotica so I decided to give it a go. This book has so much potential but it fell flat primarily due to the gaping hole of plausibility in that Chris could actually fall in love and be monogamous. Much of the first half of the book chronicles Chris' sexual conquests of what seems like dozens of sex partners and many of her liaisons are so woefully lacking in reality. Her complete lack of emotion into each act is where the bridge falls into the river when she supposedly falls in love with Kate. It's just not believable when you read chapter after chapter of this boorish character's sexcapades. I realize anything is possible especially with matters of the heart but I just couldn't make the leap when Chris is essentially a sex cyborg up until their hooking up. In the end, I still found myself rooting for Kate and Chris to make it work despite all the other despicable characters getting in their way. They are sweet and good together and manage to find a way to live in each other's world that is so different from the other. Gran was a total hoot and Kate's ex-fiancé turns out to be a really good guy. I was entertained throughout and it was worth the time spent.
Kate comes from money. Great schools, a fiancée and lots of friends. She has always had the best of everything until the day of the bar exam when she got sick and almost died. When starting to recover, her Gram suggests that she recoup in her cabin in the beautiful mountains of Santa Cruz. There she meets her neighbor, gay, out and proud, handsome Chris who owns her own landscape business. She can do carpentry, plumbing and lots of other exciting things. Chris is not a player. She is very clear that she doesn't do relationships. She loves to please women and is very good at it. She is instantly attracted to Kate. But Kate is off limits. However, they have a lot in common. Old movies and Baseball. They spend some time together and the sparks fly. There is nothing sexier than teaching someone about sex. And seriously, who wouldn't love a women like Chris living next door. This is a different story than what Ms. Blair usually writes. lots of heat and it doesn't disappoint.
I enjoyed this book but I something felt missing to me overall. The two main characters were great. Naive Late and Sexual experienced Chris made a great couple I felt and their chemistry was good. Nic, Kate's BFF, storyline felt unfinished and not really explored even though it did have some driving force in the book (maybe we get her story next). I really liked Georgia and Katherine and how perfect Todd ended up being.I think what was missing was the "outside of the bubble" influence or lack there of. Don't get me wrong there was that but it was very, very toned down almost like a thought but not really put into action.Overall I really did like this book and look forward to feeding more from Julie Blair in the future.
Based on the description I was really looking forward to reading this book. I found the book okay but not great. The pacing was slow at times and the story points begin to feel repetitive. I found myself skipping ahead (which I rarely do unless re-reading a book). This book was described by some as erotica. The first couple of sexual encounters are some what interesting but for me became very unimaginative very quickly.
I really enjoyed this love story between two people of different worlds. It had a good story line and was hot.
A hot and steamy love affair
Two women living in two totally opposite worlds. Chris doesn't do girlfriends, no commitments for her. She only wants the fun part. Could she break her own rules and fall in love? Kate lives her life as others expect from her. A life without complications. But from out of the blue or maybe as a result of her illness, Kate has doubts about everything. Her gran, a very wise, supportive and lovely woman, wants Kate to stay at her cabin for recovery, to become stronger and to find out what SHE wants. One experience after another threaten to change everyting. It was something Kate never thought she would have. It was all so new to her and it doesn't fit well with her lifestyle. I loved the lessons from Georgia. It's so well written and it makes my cheeks burn red. I was just 30% into the book and I had to stop myself from skipping pages. I badly wanted to know where the two of them were heading to. This book was utterly sexy and the romance doesn't get much better than this story. It has me hooked immediately from page one. You will be treated to some seriously steamy scenes. You'll have to read it for yourself and believe me, it's well worth the effort.
A Touch Of Temptation had me hooked from the beginning. This love story is one of the best I have ever read with romance, erotica, and a look into the reality the LGBT community has to face. An absolute must read!
