This is the first gauge theory introduction which has made sense to me. After wading through numerous review articles and bits and pieces of books, all purporting to explain the overlap between gauge theory and fibre bundles, finally this book by David Dudley Bleecker (1948-2016) has clarified the basics. I think this is because Bleecker actually understood the FB/GT overlap himself, unlike most other "introductions".There was a flurry of long GT review articles in journals around about 1980 and thereafter, all supposedly explaining either gauge theory to mathematicians, or fibre bundles to physicists. They mostly failed because the authors did not themselves understand the FB/GT overlap. I make one exception here for the 1980 Daniel/Viallet article "The geometrical setting of gauge theories of the Yang-Mills type" in Reviews of Modern Physics, vol 52, pages 175-197, which is clear up until the point where the physics really gets going. They were physicists who explained the mathematics very well. Bleecker was a mathematician who understood the physics very well. (Unfortunately he died about 12 months ago.)The first 41 pages of this tiny 1981 book by Bleecker are a crash course in the relevant differential geometry, with special emphasis on the way in which physicists represent connections on principal bundles. I'm sure that these 41 pages are not intended to be an introduction to DG for physicists. They are extremely concise and compressed. I think you are expected to know the DG already. These 41 pages merely tell you which choices of definitions and notations are being used here. They also show how to convert the pure mathematician's connection forms into physicists' connection forms via local pull-backs from the PFB total space to Lie algebra valued forms on the base space.Following the 41 page DG crash course are 129 pages of applications to physics. (You can see the table of contents in the Amazon preview.) The application of connection forms to particle physics requires the application of the connection to an associated fibre bundle, which yields a covariant derivative, which is then incorporated into the Lagrangian, which then yields equations of motion via the Euler-Lagrange equations. (I'm not 100% certain I've understood all of this yet. So hopefully I am not misleading you!)I am not aware of any better introduction to gauge theory for mathematicians. The vast majority of books on gauge theory are from the physicist's point of view, which for pure mathematicians seems like some kind of stream of consciousness where nothing is justified or justifiable. The most difficult aspect of the physics GT literature is the lack of mathematical definitions whereby you can decode the meanings of symbols as ZF sets. Bleecker has made GT decodable for me. But I also recommend the long Daniel/Viallet review article.By the way, there is no quantization in this book. There's an excellent review of Bleecker's book in Bulletin Amer Math Soc, Vol 9, 1983 by Mayer, which explains that QM and QFT are not presented in this book.

A very good book that connects field theory to differential geometry.I like this book because it is VERY PRECISE and clean! It explains things vague in QFT and GR textbooks, sometimes they write down a notation without definition, or they just express things in "physical intuition", which means you cannot ask why.I admit the first time I opened it I considered it is an alien's book, full of notations and definitions, wondering how can physics be written this way? But after a while, I gradually attracted by the author, David Bleecker, I think he really has something deep to express. This book addresses physics beautifully without losing rigor or physical interpretation, and indeed helps to understand the idea of gauge theory. A very recommended book!

A little gem. Very detailed exposition, elegant methods, beautiful results. The last two, culminating chapters, show how extra dimensions permit a geometrization of Einstein-Yang-Mills theory. At this price it is a must-have, highly recommended.

Notation is dated, but concepts are adequately explained.

this is denser than neutronium -- it is impossible to imagine thereader who could actually benefit from this (non experts need not evenbother) -- a mistaken conception and a horrible execution -- dover getsdemerits for resurrecting this turkey

It fills in the mathematical gaps in the physics books discussion of gauge theory. It is very helpful to me.

As the title suggests this "text" serves as an introduction to the QFT and guage theories recast in the "modern" mathematical setting of differential geometry. This book is only 167 ( 1/2 regular size paper ) pages long. Although self-contained I highly recommend the reader have a working knowledge of QFT and at least an introductory course in GR. The mathematical tools of the reader should include a course in analysis on manifolds at the Spivak level or higher, acquintance with fibre bundles and basic lie groups. For example in the first chapter ( 22 pages ) the author covers differential forms, manifolds, Stokes theorem, lie derivative, deRham cohomology, lie groups and algebras. The next 20 page chapter covers principal bundles and connections ( 3 definitions all shown to be equivalent and these turn out to be the physical equivalent of gauge potentials ) followed by lie algebra valued forms, exterior covariant derivative curvature and the structure equation.Chapter 3 defines particle fields as mappings from the principal bundle to a vector space which are equivariant or to the space of sections of the associated vector bundle. We now see that guage transformations are nothing more but the automorphisms of the bundle with certain requirements. Langrangians are developed as mappings of the space of 1 jets to the reals. G invariance of langrangians is defined and is shown to be an insufficient criteria for invariance under gauge transformations. However, we see that introduction of a connection and hence covariant exterior derivative on the bundle our Langrangian becomes gauge invariant. The next chapter introduces action densities and shows that a particular particle field obeys the principle of least action iff it is stationary which is true iff Langrange's equation holds. There is alot of mathematical notation and machinery developed here. At this stage spin zero electrodynamics are treated.Current are defined on PFB and a conservation of charge for g-invariant Langrangians with stationary particle fields is shown to be true. This chapter introduces the "self interaction" term for the gauge field and shows that a particle field and connection ( gauge potential ) obey the principle of least action iff they satisfy BOTH langrange equation and the inhomgeneous field equation. The next chapter introduces spinor bundles ( to add spin particles to our repretoire ) requiring modifications of the previous mathematical tools leading to the appropriate Langrangian. Lagrange's equation is shown to reduce to the dirac free field equation. The next chapter shows how to deal with interactions between the particle fields with spin and guage fields. This requires "spliced bundles" ( one where the particles with spin live and the other where guage fields live ) which requires another straight forward modification of our mathematical tools...redefining particle fields, Langrangians, currents, and action densities in the process. We see that in this general setting the particle fields and gauge potentials ( connection ) are stationary ( satisfy principle of least action ) iff they satisfy two generalized versions of lagranges equation and an inhomegeneous field equation. The author shows how these reduce the the special cases of the dirac electron field and yang mills field to the dirac and yang-mills equations and the inhomegeneous maxwell and yang-mills equations, respectively.Chapter 8 goes over the mathematics of general relativity in about 10 pages.Chapter 9 attempts to unify gauge theories and gravitation showing that the Einstein field equations and the Yang-Mills equations follow from a single variational principle dependent upon the scalar curvature of the metric defined on a suitable PFB. Problems of this unification are explained. The final chapter explores symmetry breaking monopoles and instantons. As you can see there is alot to absorb with the prerequisites noted above. The book has no examples or exercise but each theorem is proved. There is also a page with corrections which is refreshing and a page summarizing the notation and page they are first introduced.

Wow I am completely obsessed with everything that this book has to offer! So impressed! Such an adorable cute & fun book for all ages as well. I really love the entire idea of the book and hope there is a book #2 coming out too.The only advice I could give is to make it more thick so it would be a better center piece for the home. It's so thin it almost resembles a coloring book. And everyone knows the highest fashion brands all have super thick books with their name splashed across the spine.Still L O V E this idea and book!!0

This book was a great birthday gift for so many of my friends! It is a perfect small gift for those people that you don't often buy actual large presents for. We got a kick out of the pages and even though it is a parody it is addicting trying to find Karl and the other hidden items throughout the pages. It is great fun for adults parodying the Waldo for kids. I will continue to buy it for people and love it!!

I could not put this book down! I bought the book thinking it was like where's Waldo, but finding Karl. Instead,I found myself having more fun finding all the other hidden celebs along the way! Every time I looked at a page and thought I spotted it all, I would find something hilarious, like Dolce and Gabana flipping pizzas lol! I can't wait to order more copies as x-mas gifts for all my friends!

This book is awesome. I love the eccentricities of Karl Lagerfeld. I put this on my coffee table and anyone who has picked up won't put it down until they've found Karl in each scene.

This is more than a coffee table book, it is a book of mini adventure as you try to find the elusive Kaiser amongst the sea of celebrities. As your eyes roam across the pages, you can be easily sidetracked by the other famous faces in this book. Once you start your search, it may be hard to put this book down. The writing is also worth the read. You will not be bored with this one!

Was a gift for a "fashion" friend who absolutely loved it - great coffee table book and fun for adults who are nostalgic for Where's Waldo so they can enjoy it with more modern cultural references.

This is a cute book and I'm glad I purchased it! It's similar to the "Where's Waldo" book. I enjoyed reading about Karl's travels.

Gave this to a friend, we had fun leafing through and finding Karl. It's totally ridic and a fun gag gift.

Jean Donaldson knows her stuff and as a professional dog trainer I hold this book in high regards. I own both a physical copy of the book and an audio version. The audio narration of this book is so atrocious it is almost distracting. The narrator uses unnatural, almost robotic voice inflictions that do not match the flow of the writing. I find myself thinking about what could possibly have made the narrator choose to put emphasis on certain words and not others instead of paying attention to what is actually being said.Save your money and read the physical version of the book.

Definitely the BEST book for dog training!! Much better than "Don"t Shoot the Dog" which I found dull reading. The name, Culture Clash is seriously a poor title choice. I only bought this book because of reader reviews. ! This book is literally a PAGE-TURNER!! I can't believe that I have been sabotaging my own dogs. Dogs don't think like humans...Why does a house-trained dog continue to go potty in the house when the owner leaves? Why do some dogs shake during thunderstorms and how to overcome it? ...read the book and get the OMG moments like I did!! I promise, you too will enthusiastically give Culture Clash 5 stars! This book is like inviting the dog trainer from class to come home with you and expand the lessons you've learned in class! You and your dog will be happy!

First a brief history of me. I have had or interacted with dogs all of my life of 31 years. I've just gotten a husky and decided I needed some training resources because everyone says they are the most difficult dog to train. I bought this book, don't shoot the dog, and Zak George's dog training revolution. I've read Zak George's book and now this book.My issue is this. This book starts by talking trash on people that believe their dogs are more than operant conditioning machines and not very intelligent and that they aren't eager to please owners, they just care about operant conditioning and only care about how people are relevant to them.As I've said, I've had dogs all my life and this is just completely false. If you've ever cried and had a dog come over and give you kisses, and snuggle up next to you or rub up against you randomly, you know this as well. If you have ever had your dog stare you in the eye and squat down and take a dump or go to pee you should as well.(Hint: The dog isn't trying to spite you but wants you to shout no while they are in the process to let them know it's not good to do so.) Dogs really have no idea what is going on in the human world initially, and they are limited in communication options. They basically ask the only way they know how if this is what you don't want them to do. Then there is the claim that praise is not an adequate reinforcer, the author even calls it pathetic. My husky is not extremely food or play driven. Don't get me wrong, he likes both, but not as much as me hugging him and making happy noises and giving him kisses all over. Let me tell you, when I do that, he is very obediant and will happily listen to commands for quite a bit, tail wagging. Don't get me wrong, after like 10 minutes of training this way, he looks at me like ok, I don't give a crap about this anymore, let's go play, but he does the same with food and play even. I gotta tell you, as a living creature myself I wouldn't want to an extremely structured thing like that for a prolonged period of time either.Ok so what am I getting at here, is that dogs are very intelligent, and social and there isn't some magical barrier between them and humans, they can make inferences, they can understand complex clues, and they can have motivation. We are different sure, and they definitely don't have the same mental capacity, but they are complex and you can bond and have a special relationship beyond just conditioning. You can actively communicate with your dog almost like a person by reading body language unique to your dog or types of barks and whines. The more you spend with your dog the more you can discover and improve that communication. You can train your dog to be good and still allow them to be independent and have wants, needs and desires. For instance, with my husky, he was potty trained at 8 weeks. Like fully, go to the door, bark, instantly pee and poop and then come back in. I got him at 7 weeks. He learned sit, stay, come, down, no biting, no jumping, get it, fetch, drop it, kiss and hug primarily with praise also by 9 weeks. I do give him rewards at random intervals when he stays out of trouble for a while (like gold stars for a kid or toys for a kid). He was quite stubborn at times(like a kid) so I had to pick him up and carry him to home or to the crate the first 2 weeks while he was still figuring things out.I let him do his own thing but supervise alot. Tell him no sharply if he goes for the wrong thing(to chew on) and replace it with the right thing, get out toys and play and treats and ask commands and what not. If he drank a ton before bed, I initially put him in his crate after a half hour, he would whine the I gotta go potty whine, and I would let him out and put him back in. He would then cry the I want attention whine, which I would ignore at bedtime. He only did that the first night. He was communicating to me, hey, if I cry can I get out if I need to? I said sure thing. Then he said, can I get our all the time if I cry? I said no. I answered both questions for him in a way he could understand. This book basically talks about dogs in the way that devalues their independence, individuality, and actual intelligence which I think is totally messed up so I cannot recommend it over other more balanced approaches that respect the dog more. All of this said, it's not a terrible book and does have quite a few suggestions which are valid like how to roughhouse properly and various reinforcement and training techniques. It's just there are other sources, both free and with cost that will teach you in a more healthy and respectful bonding way to train your dog.

SUGGESTED AUDIENCE: Anyone who wants to increase their knowledge of canine behavior, and all who consider their dogs to be furry little people with values and morals.I first read The Culture Clash in 1998 and have been recommending it ever since. People often ask me to recommend books and many times I have been hesitant because there are many bad ones and only a few good ones. The Culture Clash by Jean Donaldson is one of the better books on canine behavior. When first published in 1997, The Culture Clash received the prestigious Maxwell Award from the Dog Writer's Association of America as the Best Dog Training and Behavior Book of the year. More importantly, this book was one of the first to challenge the dominance myth and punishment based training. In The Culture Clash, Donaldson helps us to understand our dogs as dogs, and not as furry little creatures that we too often attribute with human like characteristics. Donaldson's refreshingly new approach has had a tremendous effect on the relations I have with my dogs and my understanding of why they do what they do.Unfortunately, the depiction of dogs by the mass media, and even many dog people, has created some all to common misconceptions about dogs: that they have morals, know when they have done something wrong, are capable of planning revenge, and have a desire to please. This has done a great disservice to all dogs, resulting in our giving them human like responsibilities and then being disappointed when they cannot live up to our expectations. Our dogs' failure to live up to our standards has also led to the proliferation of the "dominance theory" in the dog-human relationship. This in turn has led to the use of punishment based training techniques because of the emphasis on "showing the dog you are the leader." Donaldson convincingly demonstrates that dogs are NOT disobedient because they are trying to be dominant, but because they do not understand what a cue means or they find other instinctual stimulus to be more motivating than what we are asking of them (e.g. asking them to come when chasing a squirrel). Once we understand this and start applying scientifically validated learning theories to training our dog, we discover that dominance is totally irrelevant. This is evident in our training classes at Green Acres where young children are training the family dog as easily, and sometimes more effectively than their parents.Donaldson explains how our dogs' instinctual behaviors can actually be used to make them even better companions. For example, many old school training books would tell you never, ever allow your dog to play "tug-of-war" because it will make the dog dominant. This advice is totally erroneous. As Donaldson explains, dogs in the wild tugging together at a carcass are NOT trying to dominate one another; they are working cooperatively together to dissect the carcass. By playing tug with our dog, with rules of course, we are not making them aggressive, but are building a bond by working together cooperatively as a pack. You will find that for many dogs playing tug is a very motivating reward, possibly more motivating than chasing that squirrel.

This book is very well illustrated and well written. However, there are two things that I didn’t like about the book. The baby llama throws a temper tantrum and and the entire book is about his impatience with his mama. Then there is a page or two of him suddenly getting really scared of the dark and the illustrations may be a little unsettling for some young readers. The colors, big eyes, and one page of him yelling at the top of his lungs in terror for his mama. It just feels weird whenever I read it to my 2 year old. However, this is just my opinion and I know many parents out there have no problem with it. Just wanted to share in case there is another parent out there that might appreciate this heads up.

If you search on YouTube for raps of this book, there are a bunch of videos of famous rappers putting their own spin on this book. I imitate one of them when reading this to my 8 month old and he loves it. It’s the only book he pays attention to.

I've bought several copies of this book. The first one was for my DOG. He loves it and gets so relaxed by hearing the repetitive words of Llama Llama Red Pajama and he really likes it when I use my voice to be Llama's mama when she is racing up the stairs to find out why Little Llama is in such a tizzy. I make this sort of shrill yelling, like 'aahhhhhh, aahhhhhhh, aahhhhh,' to portray Llama's mama as she is running up the stairs and my American Bull Dog gets so happy and excited with that sound. HE REALLY DOES KNOW THE WHOLE BOOK. I've purchased other copies for friends. I realized the other night when I was feeling a little alone, and I was reading it by myself... that the book is really about comforting ME and so then I thought well if it can make a grown adult feel so loved, and a big mcfatty of a dog definitely feel SO LOVED, then I can only imagine how much it must fill the hearts of young children. I discovered LLRP books about a year ago and was so surprised to learn that it was first published many years ago. How had I not heard of this wonderful book and series of books by Anna Dewdney?! Then I learned that Mrs. Dewdney has passed away and my heart and mind is filled with so much sadness...I hope she knows how much love her books bring to so many. She had to be one of the most wonderful persons in the world to have created so much beauty and love. I got another copy today from Amazon to send to a special child I love. I also got the LLRP doll...for myself. Oh the places he will go with me! IMAGINE MY SURPRISE TO SEE A STICKER ON THE BOOK, LLRP, THAT SAID IT IS SOON TO BE A NETFLIX ORIGINAL SERIES! I can't wait; I'm so happy!

Most parents and grandparents will have a wry smile and nod of recognition while reading this book! Found this book on Amazon's book editors "100 Children's Books to Read in a Lifetime", which has been very handy in directing me toward books for our four grandchildren that had been published after my own children were young, and in reminding me of books I'd forgotten (need a new lock for that memory bank!) Anna Dewdney does a nice job of matching rhymes with her own whimsical illustrations in recreating the real-life scenes grandparents can recall with their own children (and young parents may be currently experiencing), in which Baby Llama (in his red pajamas) is read a bedtime story by Mama Llama, after which he's kissed goodnight and Mama heads downstairs to a sink full of dishes.Baby starts feeling a bit apprehensive in the dark, and begins the usual childhood ploys for getting Mama back in the room... he needs a drink, calls out for her, but she's preoccupied with dishes and then a phone call. He begins wimpering, moaning, crying, hollering, stomping and pouting, jumping and shouting... wondering possibly "if Mama Llama's GONE?" Mama finally comes back in, a bit frustrated at first, then softening as she realizes he just needs a bit of reassurance... "Little Llama, don't you know, Mama Llama loves you so? Mama Llama's always near, even if she's not right here." After a double dose of kisses, he's then able to snuggle into his pillow and fall asleep.Oh my goodness, did this book rattle my memory bank... though I can look back on it now and chuckle, I recall being five months into pregnancy with my second son, attempting to transition the first one (@ 2-1/2 years old) into a "big boy bed". The bottom of the baby bed had been lowered as far as it could be for quite a while, and we were nearing the time we'd have to raise it all the way back up! "Numero Uno", as I affectionately call him, was SO happy - we have a picture of him all tucked in on his first night, his trusty Glo Worm (a stuffed toy from the early '80s) at his side, great big grin on his face... until I walked out. Oh, the bedtime battle of wills between parent and child!Sometimes all it takes is that extra bit of reassurance. That's how it was with my younger son, and with our oldest grandson. But as for my own oldest and our middle grandson (HIS son), all I could do - when "Numero Uno" told me about his struggles in trying to get his second son to stay in bed and go to sleep - was to give a wry smile and nod of recognition - and a big ol' wink! Cute book, fun to read, and certainly worth a try!

We love Llama Llama books in our house. Fun rhymes that are easy to act out and remember. The stories are easy for even the littlest kids to understand. Also, great for teaching emotions. Both our kids have autism and Anna Dewdney books have been a great resource for us.

Our two year old twins love this book. They have it memorized! They love it when I read it dramatically and say the words along with me. It has become one of our favorites. :)

5 year old loves the Llama Llama series! Great book and she is starting to read it on her own now! If you haven't read the Llama Llama series, I highly suggest them!

This was purchased for my son based on the message and positive reviews. However I’m really not impressed and it doesn’t hold his interest at all. He typically enjoys books that rhyme, but this is far too repetitive. Quite frankly I find it rather annoying to read.I won’t bother returning this but will instead be donating it to charity in the hopes that it ends up in the hands of someone who will enjoy it more than we do.

The Egg and I, by Betty MacDonald

Review

"Anyone who has ever struggled with a farm or even with a small garden will especially enjoy this breezy autobiography, But everyone will find its hilarious reminiscences of an unconventional childhood and of unique experiences in the Northwest Pacific sprightly, diverting, and excellent entertainment. The whole book crackles with the innocent deviltry of acorns hitting the roof-tops." -- "Saturday Review of Literature""For all the allegedly gloomy moments, The Egg and l is an astoundingly light-hearted book. The MacDonalds, one gathers, had both youth and gumption on their side, to say nothing of an abounding humor that bounced them over the direst crises." "-- New York Times"

It is quite obvious that the current readers of this book were not alive when this story took place. I am 80 years old and have two First Editions of this book. I only bought it on kiindle because I need to be able to make the print so much larger. And...I am sure I will reread it before my demise and have many laffs.PS: I lived in the area where she was on her farm.

My family has read and re-read and quoted this semi-autobiographical book for decades. I believe it is the funniest book ever written. Although it takes place in the 1920's, the witty author's humor, descriptions, and outlook on life are as current as ever. At once cynical, enthusiastic, appreciative, critical, spirited, and desperate, the author's account of her life on a chicken farm in the Olympic Mountains of Washington, as a naive sheltered newlywed, is priceless. Nobody can turn a phrase like Betty McDonald. She immortalized wonderful characters like Ma and Pa Kettle and their huge family, "church-lady" neighbor Birdie Hicks, McDonald's eccentric grandmother "Gammy," and colorful handymen Peter Moses and "Good Customer." McDonald was sued after the book became a success, by the Bishop family who believed they were the model for the Kettles, and by a Native American man who believed himself the model for the Native American friend of her husband she entitled "Crowbar." Be warned - the book is screamingly politically incorrect, shamelessly disparaging country people, Native Americans, farmers, Irish, and other groups, but at the time of its original publication, this was much more common and accepted by the general public, if not the segment being stereotyped. Other classics written decades ago suffer from the same shortcoming; even the beloved Laura Ingalls Wilder books talk candidly about "Ma" hating Indians. If you can chill and love the book for what it has to offer, while accepting that it was written almost 90 years ago in a very different world, you will fall in love with it. Also, if you read between the lines, you will find that McDonald had great affection for most of the individuals she wrote about, even while criticizing others of their ethnic or socioeconomic group. All in all, the book is a joy and will give you a glimpse of a world we will never see again, when there were still large amounts of unsettled land out West, and a time when family farms could still be profitable and offer a rewarding way of life, and you will almost surely come to love Betty McDonald as a funny and most entertaining friend.

The Egg and I, written by Betty MacDonald, is entertaining, witty, heartening, and uplifting. Ms. MacDonald took difficult times in her life and made them appear fun by utilizing witty and dry humor throughout. The good, the bad, and the ugly of married life on a chicken farm in the late 1920’s is written with such flare that even today I think some people will relate to some of the situations. The Egg and I is narrated by Heather Henderson and she performed the story so well that I thought Betty MacDonald herself was sitting in my living room telling the story. Henderson’s voice is soothing and hypnotic and took an already great book to an utterly outstanding book! The ‘voice’ of Pa Kettle was perhaps my favorite, but the ‘voices’ of all the characters were distinctive and enjoyable to listen to. Ms. Henderson is a new narrator for me, but I will definitely search out more titles narrated by her in the future - especially the other books written by Betty MacDonald.Overall, this was a fun book to listen to and I found myself laughing out loud throughout. The Egg and I is extremely well-written with charming and delightful characters and is one audio book that I will listen to again and again.Story – 4 starsPerformance – 5 starsOverall – 4.5 stars

There’s a scene in this book where some hens fly up into the apple trees and won’t come down. Frantic about the fate of these domestic homebody birds, the author eventually gives up and says “they made their bed, they’d have to lie in it.” The hens end up as dinner for the weasels, raccoons, hawks, and other creatures indigenous to the farm. She describes her chickens as boneheads who have 365 days to learn to recognize their masters and still screech every time they’re brought their lunch. She can’t figure out why the chickens never have canine loyalty. If you think the chickens are silly, you’ll love their neighbors, the Kettle family. For those of you that loved the “Ma and Pa Kettle” films of the 1950’s, here’s where they started, right here in the Pacific Northwest, the silliest farmers in the USA. MacDonald wrote about them based on her neighbors, the Bishops, who sued the MacDonalds for defamation (and lost) after the movie came out. The Ma and Pa Kettle movies are long since forgotten, but they’re a hilarious bunch in this book.Though this book is comedy, there is a very dark and disturbing chapter, reserved for the Native Americans. Raised on the Hiawatha poem to believe that all natives were noble savages, she’s shocked to discover their level of degeneracy. The men, women, and children are all alcoholics, and kids as young as 12 are drinking moonshine. Old men are having sex with the children in public, and babies are allowed to eat garbage they find on the beach. It’s as though they’ve become worse than the inbred white trash of South Carolina, and though it wasn’t diagnosed then, I bet the children all had fetal alcohol syndrome.I’m not sure how much value this book has today, except maybe to those of us contemplating a career in organic farming. If you’re wondering why I read this book in the first place, the answer is that I looked up the author of the Mrs. Pigglewiggle series and found that she wrote this before she got into children’s books.
