This book teaches handwriting the old-fashioned way - working through the various strokes and reinforcing through repetition. It's great for beginners, but that's not what I purchased it. My kids have dyslexia and dysgraphia. My middle school child needed to improve her handwriting. This book really helped!

Well it's cursive, but a very difficult form for a youngster to learn. This style of cursive is beautiful but not practical in the modern world. I'm a teacher and I know there are much easier methods to join up writing. It's an amazing book if you want old world tradition. This was not what I was hoping for. I wanted the writing to be an extension of regular a b c or A B C but instead it is devoid of that simple and natural progression. But this if you want to preserve historical writing practices but not if you want your elementary child to be able to join their letters together in a simple and efficient cursive style.

We recently purchased the Cursive Handwriting Workbook for our 10 year old to work on her cursive. She has been doing cursive for a while but needed some remedial work on her handwriting and joining letters.This workbook is easy to use and fun for students to work on their cursive. It begins with the letters with one page per letter of the alphabet. A example is given, then there is an example of the lowercase letter with room to practice, example of the upper case letter with room to practice and then 2 lines of words beginning with the letter you are working on with room to practice.At the bottom of each page is an example of all the letters in the alphabet in cursive, which i liked to have there as a reference. This was a good set up.Though tracing is no "instructed" in this section, your student could trace the letters for practice first as well. SI did like that each page had a place for the student to write his or her name at the top. This was great practice for the student and my daughter enjoyed practicing her name. I think it will be fun to see how her name progresses in neatness throughout the year as well.After the alphabet section there are numbers to practice. In addition to writing the names of the numbers (i.e. two, twelve) in cursive, there is also room to practice actually writing the number (i.e. 1, 12). This is good because I think handwriting practice overall involves writing numbers as well.The next section is a review of the letters and working on connecting letters. The student traces and then writes the letters of the alphabet connecting the uppercase letter to the lowercase letter. Linking the letters of the alphabet is good practice to working the basis of cursive- linking letters together to make words.After this is worked on, then the student will go into working on the days of the week and months of the year before working on one page a work at a time in writing sentence. Each page has a example of a sentence followed by room to practice writing the sentence. There is also a fun picture to color at the top of each page that corresponds with the sentence. My daughter loves to color so this was a treat. She could practice writing her sentence and then color the picture when she was finished.Overall, I think this is a very well-organized cursive book and will likely use it with my 1st grader when he is ready as well. It is a good teaching books as well as a great, easy and quick book for remedial review or extra handwriting work in cursive.The books is rated for grades 1 through 3, but I think you could use this for any child who is ready to learn cursive or any age student in need of some extra practice. The book is well laid out and the lessons are quick, assuming you do one page as a lesson. It would definitely be a book that you can work at at your own pace.I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to have their student learn cursive or use for extra practice at home.Cursive Handwriting Workbook: Beginning Cursive Handwriting

When I was in school, cursive writing was one of my favorite classes. Being that kids are not being taught cursive in school anymore, this is a perfect book for you to teach them at home. Cursive writing is so important for our kids to learn, They need to learn how to properly sign their name. This cursive book is easy to follow, has plenty of space for kids to practice writing the letters and has cute pictures that they can color. This cursive book teaches kids how to write cursive letters, numbers, sentences, days of the week and months of the year. At the back of the book, there are blank pages to practice on. This is such an awesome workbook! Simple but very good; not distracting at all and will help keep my son focused. I love the fact that he will have to write his name on every page; helps reinforce what I require of him. Love that he will have to practice writing the days of the week and the months, helps reinforce that as well. I am glad that I can use this to help teach cursive writing! The only 2 things that would make it even better would be if the pages were perforated so he could just take a few pages with him when we homeschool on the go and I think the letters and words that need to be traced should be in color, maybe blue, so that they are seen easier. This is a great workbook for extra practice and a great price. We watch youtube videos for demonstration prior to each lesson. The workbook provides opportunities for kids to draw and color as they learn too. It has been a big hit at our house.

I first purchased this book for my son because cursive writing was no longer being taught in our parish. I was able to simply tell my son it was time to work on his cursive writing and he would complete the needed pages without any help needed. Also, and more importantly, he was so excited to learn how to correctly write in cursive. Before this book, he was simply connecting the letters as he thought they should be. LOL or however he thought they "looked right." He loves it.--I currently volunteer as a school liaison for my job. While speaking with the Dean of Students at our neighborhood school, it was brought to my attention that their parish no longer taught cursive writing, just like my son's. I purchased these books for the students at this school. The teachers had nothing but wonderful things to say and the kids loved the book.
