This is not the typical book on Kindle and was an absolute waste of money. The word search is practically useless because the page #'s are not referenced by their # in the Kindle, but rather by the hard-cover book. Meaning, if I needed to find the commentary on "Kings, Book of," I could do a word search on the same, and it would provide every reference for "Kings, Book of." If it tells me that it's on page 473, that reference is to the hardcover book - not the Kindle. Instead, the Kindle page # would be something like 25,682.

With just a little effort, this valuable resource could have been made usable and accessible. As it is, it takes more time to find anything than it is worth. Why not provide the article index (which inexplicably is not included in the Kindle version . . . along with the subject index and other end material that would have helped) with links to the articles themselves? A truly awful implementation of a valuable work. I would suggest spending your money on the hard copy, which you can actually use.

In a pastor or a Scholars Library, usually the first Works purchased or commentaries, followed by practical works with only a second thought towards biblical dictionaries and encyclopedias. This could not be a worse process of thinking, for dictionaries specifically those produced in the series titled, the IVP Bible Dictionary series, for this is a top-notch and needed addition to a basic pastor set of works as well as a scholars library. I was first introduced to this series in seminary, and have found them deeply insightful and for the most part theologically sound and great aides in understanding complex parts of scripture. In this work, the dictionary of the Old Testament prophets, edited by Bill T. Arnold and H.G.M. Williamson, the books of the Historical Books, both minor and major, are explored with specific focus on various imagery and interpretation. This work has a truly wide scope in explaining views that are out in the world, both Orthodox an unorthodox as well as types of criticism, tradition and interpretation, and various hermeneutical issues which need to be addressed. I specifically found those dealing with textual criticism and motifs to be quite enjoyable and insightful in my teaching of the book of Judges. It is highly scholarly, this work will be of use to a pastor who has some foundations in studying that of views that differ with his or with views that would broaden his horizons. Well I have said that I give her with a few views in this work specifically that of the feminist interpretation of scripture, editor's Arnold and Williamson do a phenomenal job of eating the reader in their understanding of the work of the Historical Books. I therefore recommend this as a purchase to both pastors and Scholars if they have the money to purchase this what can be expensive volume in the phenomenal, IVP Bible dictionary series. You will not be disappointed. I received this work from IVP Academic, for the purpose of an unbiased review.

IVP (InterVarsity Press) has a reputation for publishing quality scholarship in the fields of Theology and Biblical Studies. The IVP Bible Dictionary Series is no exception. Dictionary of the Old Testament: Historical Books is the second of IVP's series on the Hebrew Bible (the first: Dictionary of the Old Testament: Pentatuch). IVP mostly utilizes conservative Christian scholars for the articles that comprise their dictionaries. However, often material is gathered for those articles from sources throughout Christian and Judaic scholarship. Also, each entry provides a bibliography referencing a wide range of sources for further study. Those who are interested in New Testament studies should also check out IVP's New Testament volumes in this same series, The IVP Dictionary of Theology, and Dictionary of Biblical Imagery. I don't always have internet access when I'm getting some work done (sometimes it's nice to get some work done under the shade of a tree in the park), that's where this comes in handy.It's by no means intended to teach someone new to C, but it's also not advertised as doing so. If you want to jump into C with no programming history, keep this in the back of your mind for later, but look for a different book.

If you know Tech, you know O'reilly guides are always the best, this is a great concise pocket reference for the C language, really helps when your C is a little rusty. A quick read of this will bring it all back to you.

I took a class on C back in the early 90s, but ended up working more with Pascal, then Perl and eventually settled into Python for over a decade (funny that I just noticed that they all start with 'P'). I found myself in a situation where I need to write and modify some C code. I pulled out my old C books, and starting wading through pages and pages of programming history, and the umpteenth retelling of the 'moth in the line printer' story. I didn't need to learn how to program, I just needed a reference to quickly look up syntax.This book is perfect, and I'm of the opinion now that I'm going to stick to pocket references for everything but the most alien of subjects. I don't need history, and I don't need step-by-step instructions for installing a compiler/system on my workstation or witty stories about how the author used while he was in college and the horrible results that you're supposed to learn from. Thank you O'Reilly for putting this together.

It's not here!The House Next Door- A cross between a really bad romance, and a detective case. What planet was the main character, "Laura" living on?! A smile, and an absurd request, and she risks everything.The Second story- equally ridiculous! A seasoned detective, acting like a first year rookie. And getting arrested for murder!Reads like desperation!

This book was not a book. It was 3 stories. Not what I expected- my own fault for just clicking the purchase button without reading the reviews. It was like Mr Patterson had an idea for a story, and this is his draft. One book with three stories should not show the title for the first story only on its cover. It’s rather deceptive. As for the first story, I felt like I had read it before? I wonder if it was published earlier?

James Patterson did not deliver on these stories. Did not know there were three stories in one book. I would have never purchased this book.

I loved the first and third stories the very best . The first one blew me away and so did the last one . The middle story was a good but not great . I still recommend this book and don't understand why there are so many poor ratings . James Patterson is still one of the best mystery writers alive . I recommend this book . You won't regret buying it

This is not a product of James Patterson, at least not the actual writing. I was very disappointed in the all 3 of the stories in this book. Did not have the Patterson mystery about it. Read a couple of pages in each story and you could tell who did what and when. No entertainment in reading. I thought I was being extremely critical so I had someone else read it and they came to the same conclusion. I have several new Patterson books and I hope they don't disappoint me.

James Hilton was such a good writer. He was able to elicit the reader's emotions almost magically. This is a novel that won't be easily forgotten.

I bought this book for my 22 year old sister. She's not a fan of school, but loves to learn new things. She's also completely undecided on a career or on her next move. In this economy, that's really a recipe for stagnation and frustration. So, I checked this book out of the library to preview it for her and loved it so much that I bought it. It details lots of options that one rarely hears about (working on a co-op, specific non-profits/NGO's to work with), as well as reviewing the more traditional non-college options (military, Americorp, etc). It's extremely casual in tone, non-threatening, up-beat, and very "Can-Do". It emphasizes non-college options that still provide you with a way to live (e.g., eat and have a roof over your head). It also provides specific websites and other resources for following up on its recommendations. I highly recommend this book for its innovation, variety, and it's enthusiastic embrace of "thinking outside the box." (And yes, my sister is in the process of reading it and has said that she loves it).

Found out students in several colleges are doing some of these ideas after they graduate,to get real world experience and savings.Good to read for someone who has had a complete turn around (hey,you can plan all you want,but life will happen anyways!) In life, has lessened abilities,but still does not want to drown in,or live life avoiding debt.

The book gives you things you can do besides college, for example, Americorps, Cruise ships, Military, teaching English in Japan etc. It also gives information on how to join and sometimes a description of what it's like to do it. Recommended by me for young adults and for people who are just looking for something to do. Love this book since many kids do not need to go to college to earn a degree only to find they can not get a job. Becoming a plumber, electrician, and many other careers can begin right out of high school especially if the high school offers training in blue collar careers. And...many of these jobs pay just as much, and sometimes more than the traditional 4 year college degree.

The UnCollege Alternative is a great resource for those students who are in college and questioning whether or not they should be there. Ms. Wood makes an excellent point early on in the book: would you just walk into a store and point at something and say "ring it up", regardless of the cost? The author states that when students go on to college without really thinking it through as to whether or not college is for them - they are saying "ring it up" possibly for a $80,000 education.What makes The UnCollege Alternative shine is the wide variety of potential career paths the author discusses, many of which can bring in significant incomes. She discusses all aspects of each career path: needed training, certification, potential income and job market, as well as providing a sort of "day in the life of" feel.I think often students just go to college not knowing what they want to study, just going because that's what they are "supposed" to do. I recommend this book for ALL high school and current college students. Even if you decide that college is the right track for you, at least you are educated in what some alternatives are. It is important to know just what's out there before you potentially spend four years of your life and tens of thousands of dollars.Another excellent book I recommend on a similar subject is "Taking Time Off" by Colin Hall and Ron Lieber.

I adore this calendar. You get 3 add'l photos of cute dogs on top of the one that is featured for that month. Seeing all of these dogs puts a smile on my face, and would do the same for any dog lover. I did not receive anything in exchange for this review.

So cute! I am a huge fan of interesting office wall calendars as conversation pieces, and this one is perfect for that! Plus, who can hate Mondays when you sit down at your desk and stare into the eyes of adorable dogs!

Great photos and stories.

She forgot to get calendars, of course she says I did, so I at least got to choose, and this was one of them, a fine choice, a lot of nice dogs in it, including a white German Shepherd, of which we currently have 5 living with us. Great quality too.

Early Christmas gift for my mom (since it begins in Sep 2016) and she loved it! All the pictures are adorable and in good quality.

I wish the cover photo was duplicated in one of the months so I could put it up on my photo wall.

LOVEEEE this calendar! Nice and big but not too huge. The pictures are way too cute and the boxes are big enough to fill in multiple events for each day. :)

Finally, their lively writing style and focus on the quirky and interesting makes one truly want to explore where they are visiting, not just hit the tourist must-sees.I used the digital version of this guide book recently, and I'm from the area. Not only did I re-visit old haunts long forgotten, but I learned new things about my own stomping ground.Highly recommended.

This book was informative, and helpful on a recent road trip through the Southwest. The index needs improvement. Several times there was a restaurant (e.g. the Owl Bar and Cafe) or an entire town that I looked for in the index, but it wasn't listed. Later I would find that there was information about the place in the book, but I didn't find it until too late, because it wasn't in the index.

Comprehensive guide, planned a two week trip from it. Got us unlost when we took a wrong turn in the desert, no joke. My favorite LP book.
